Message If the pumps were continually running they may cause the wires to get hot. If you were to wire the pumps incorrectly (black to negative ground and red to 12v B+) they would run continuously. The pump motor negative should not be wired directly to ground. That may not be what happened in this case but the fuel system at the motor may have caused the pump to run continuously. Ash has pointed out the causes of this in the past.
